I’ve had back pain for over 3 years since I broke my back. Surgery was suggested a few years ago but I was determined to fix my core muscles and heal without surgery. After a few different PT’s, one who tried dry-needling on me for the first time, he punctured my lung (Mark Plaatjes in Boulder, do not let him dry needle you). Ever since my horrible dry-needle experience (a year ago) I have not allowed a dry needle to get close and I’ve just done other PT regimens in hopes to one day be pain-free. The slightest wrong-move, I’ll be out for a few weeks, hardly able to walk.
15 days ago, I moved wrong and decided to go see another back-specialist as I’m to a point where I’m ready to consider surgery. I was ordered an MRI and PT therapy with Dr. Fox (since other PT’s haven’t worked, Dr. V suggested Dr. Fox, as she’s the best). In my first appointment with Dr. Fox today she was extremely thorough and helped me to see that there might be a light at the end of my pain-journey-tunnel. We are still waiting for MRI to happen to know more about what treatments I’ll use; however, in the meantime she opened up my mind to dry-needling. I was so scared when she first mentioned it, to just start somewhere with relaxing my muscles. I asked her to back up and walk me through the complications and what to expect. She sat down and walked me through everything I needed to know. After she spent the time to help educate me and give me everything I needed to know to trust I’d be OK, it made sense to give dry-needling another try.
The moment I stood up, I was still sore but had significantly less pain in the little things I tried. A few hours later (now) I realized I was walking without pain and felt a freedom from pain that I have not had in a long time. I am scheduled to see Dr. Fox 2 times a week and when I was first extremely hesitant to be “prescribed” yet again, PT – I’m now looking forward to where I’ll go in my treatment with her. I left feeling hopeful and excited for a pain-healing journey with Dr. Fox. I’ll keep you all posted – but for now, I had to share my extremely positive first-experience. I highly recommend this place – a must do!
I have been struggling with lower back (degenerative dic disease) and nerve pain in both legs since 1971. After several surgeries, I still had pain and had to rely on pain medications. In 2011 I was informed, after an MRI, that I had an inoperable tumor on the left side of my spine. The surgeon would not operate fearing that it was too dangerous and could paralyze me. Needless to say, I opted for “NO SURGERY”.
Now, I am losing the ability to walk properly.
Just three weeks ago my Primary Care Doctor sent me to Dr. Annie Fox at A. Fox Physical Therapy.
Dr. Fox introduced me to the technique “Dry Needles” This has been Nothing Short of a Miracle. I noticed a change in thee pain after the first treatment. It was somewhat painful at first but does get less painful after each treatment. I am now on my third treatment and am out of that crippling pain. I am down to two pain pills at bedtime and hope to be off of those soon. I actually feel human again.
I am so grateful to Dr. Fox for her incredible gift. I only wish I had known about this procedure earlier. I highly recommend “Dry Needles” and I am in the process of telling as many people as I can about this procedure.
The results of an IMS treatment at first lasted 4 or 5 days, but with each treatment the results lasted longer and longer and I now receive treatment once or twice a month. After a couple of months of IMS therapy I started physical therapy again and have continued with twice monthly massages.
It’s been 5 months since I first met Annie and her magic needles. I no longer have headaches, I can lift and reach without pain, I can turn my head to the left (which helps tremendously while driving!) and I sleep through the night.
Most importantly? I have not had and hopefully will never have surgery on my neck.

After having the neck surgery as a last ditch effort, I still experienced bad muscle spasms. I told the surgeon’s office at my six week post-op appointment that I was done wasting my time with Physical Therapy. I was pretty adamant about not going, but they recommended Annie because they knew she would really help me and we would be a great fit together. I was so anxious to meet her that I drove straight from the surgeon’s office to A. Fox Physical Therapy, P.C. ( Annie’s office) to make an appointment.
She saw me the first thing the next morning and I knew immediately that this was going to be a very good experience!
Annie and her staff were so friendly and empathetic to me. I felt like they really cared very much about my pain. They were always extremely accommodating to me, listened to me, and were willing to fit me in the schedule if I had any kind of set-back. I really wish I had met Annie sooner because I feel that I could have avoided neck surgery with the proper care beforehand. And I feel that I suffered needlessly for five years because I didn’t receive the superior care that I have gotten with Annie. The manual therapy and IMS (needling) was outstanding. I cannot thank her enough for all the help she has given me. I am really feeling like my old happy self again!!
